Scaffoldings

(See SM-VA 004 - 4.10 - Scaffoldings) ARCELOR BREMEN generally does not provide scaffoldings, devices, or construction timber. Use of ARCELOR BREMEN property only with permit. Use at own risk. The contractor is liable for damages to and the loss of objects. According to DIN 4420, the erection of and modifications to scaffoldings will be performed only by specialty firms or experts. Once completed, scaffolding will be entered only after receiving a "green clearance form", and provision with data concerning load capacity. Mobile work platforms with unchangeable work surface do not require a clearance, since they must be equipped permanently with a type plate and load bearing data. Scaffolding marked with a red scaffolding-blocking label may not be entered. Scaffolding may not be altered arbitrarily. With non-compliance, a possible consequence is banning from the plant site. Scaffolding erected in through fares, near roads, and in the area of railroad tracks, must be reported to plant security (phone 2200 or 2277) prior to erection. They must be properly safeguarded with lamps, beams, or barriers. Safety distances: At least 0.5 m to mobile parts (for example cranes) At least 1.5 m to exterior edge of track. for makeshift scaffolding or standing scaffolding, scaffolding height may not exceed 2 m. makeshift and standing scaffoldings may not carry loads over 100 kg/m2. After longer breaks in work, and following extraordinary impact, the scaffolding operator is obliged to check the scaffolding visually for defects. If defects are determined, the specialty firm must block off the respective sections of the scaffolding until the defects are corrected.
